Tweedledum's Damson Plum Preserve
Damson Plums are an ancient, heirloom variety, truly the mother of all plums. Tiny and tart, they are rarely eaten raw, but cooked down they produce a preserve of outstanding quality. We initially planted five plum trees, but by the time they began bearing and we made the first batches, we knew why these plums were legendary, and planted a dozen more.
Spread on toast and muffins, waffles, pancakes, and French toast; swirl into yogurt or ice cream, fill crepes or jam tarts, and for chilly winter comfort, spoon onto bread pudding like my Gramma did.
The rich, fruity flavor makes this a great addition to a cheese board or charcuterie platter. Explore its use as a glaze for or accompaniment to meats like lamb, pork, or poultry.
As with all our preserves, we use no pectin or thickeners of any kind, and only about half the sugar of conventional jams.
